Deb, it was great meeting you and working with you today .  I love, love, love my “new” house .  The kids came in from the bus and just wandered around silently looking at all the rooms and then Tyler said, “Hey, how did we get this new house?”  Aaliyah said “It's amazing – it looks so much bigger!!”  When I asked Tyler what part he liked the best, he said “Everything!”

My older son just came in and walked through and said, “This looks so much better!”

My husband just got home.  He took one look at the dining room and said that he loved it.  He especially loves the wood floor under the table, so even though I had imagined a great rug under it. 

He thinks the entire 1st floor looks unbelievable.  He's in somewhat a state of shock.  He absolutely was so impressed with everything!

"I am an HGTV addict.  My favorite shows are the ones where they get their room entirely transformed.  The homeowner has a non-descript room and by the end of the show they are in tears and/or jumping for joy.  I always thought this was only possible on HGTV and could only be achieved with lots of money and Candice Olson.  

Then Debra Shaner from Deb Décor agreed to help me turn my drab and dated family room into my favorite room of the house – one that everyone tells me should be in a magazine.  

The entire process was fun and energizing.  Deb gave me a visual and showed me how:

• My sofa that was in front of my large window was blocking my light
• My paint color (off white) was doing nothing for the room.  (I'm afraid of color).
• The layout of the room and large dated entertainment center created heaviness and made the room – well, a bit depressing.  

The fun began as Debra took out the Benjamin Moore paint swatches and we began to re-arrange the furniture.  We went shopping together - as a designer Debra has an eye for what she calls unique and “pocket pieces”.  These were items I would have never thought of for my home (I'm also “safe” with accessories).    

The end result is a room just like an HGTV makeover.  The gorgeous carmel brown she chose for the walls lets my white fireplace stand out; the furniture placement allows more light in the room (and lets me see my patio), and the accessories make the room feel like a “model” home.  My friends and neighbors could not believe the transformation. 

And yes I cried and hugged Debra when she was done."
